#50 Chris Date - Biblical Interpretation and the topic of Hell - Critical Witness

Today we're talking with Chris Date about Hell and the biblical interpretations that lead us to the three main views of God's judgement. Chris Date is Adjunct Professor of Bible and Theology at Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary and co-editor of Rethinking Hell: Readings in Evangelical Conditionalism (Cascade, 2014) and A Consuming Passion (Pickwick, 2015). A full-time software engineer, Chris believes theology and apologetics are for every average joe in the pews, and not just for pastors, philosophers, PhD’s and the erudite in ivory towers. Formerly holding to the well known view of hell as a place of ongoing torment, he became convinced of conditionalism, the view that eternal life is conditional on salvation through Jesus and the eternal punishment is death post resurrection and judgement. This change happened over the course of a process which began when he interviewed Edward Fudge, and he has since defended the view in several debates and on Justin Brierley's Unbelievable? radio program on Premier Christian Radio UK. Chris is also a steward of the Rethinking Hell project. You can find a wider range of theological topics that Chris engages in here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnlagBRu-t-9_tX6NivDfXw And Rethinking Hell Live here: https://www.youtube.com/user/rethinkinghell #Christianity #Hell #Theology --- About the channel --- Dan and Phil are mates who like talking apologetics, philosophy, ethics and theology. They interview Christians who are evangelists, authors, scientists, apologists, comedians or simply interested in talking about big topics. In the future, we're looking to interview people from other faiths and atheists in a non-confrontational format. We put all interviews on a podcast. We aim to update the podcast every other week: https://criticalwitness.uk/podcast If long form interviews aren't your thing and you just want short, digestible videos, subscribe for our #shortconvos from our longer conversations that come when we have time.
